Find Space to Dance: StudioGo’s Story

In 2009 I made it on to the semi-pro team of Couture Dance Alliance, under the direction of then world salsa champion Luis Aguilar. The team was down by one male leader (which left me partnerless) and to my shock, Luis stepped in so I wouldn’t be sidelined all season. Yep. That’s right. I was partnered with the world champ – in practice and performance. Oh hello, Cloud Nine – so nice to meet you.

Constant practice with a dancer of Luis’ caliber does a student well – I worked my tail off, improved at lightning speed and somehow found myself on two pro teams the following year – Haute Couture (Luis’ team) and Beyond Dreamz (a performance company under the direction of the wonderful Giju John and Kristen Nolan).  I may have been the most junior dancer there but hey, I was on two top teams in the Bay, surrounded by teammates I respected and adored and I was DANCING EVERY DAY. Salsa Heaven I tell you. That was the flavor of my dance life during my San Francisco days.

When I moved to San Diego and met the love of my life (now my husband), my dance life was distinguished by Tango.

My life has always been filled with dance. Classical ballet was my first love. I took tap, jazz, character, samba, and west coast swing classes to switch things up once in a while. And, like many dancers, I eventually discovered the benefits of yoga and integrated a daily practice into my dance life.

When I became a mom, my dance life was put on hold. Looking forward to dancing again, I researched mommy-and-me classes and considered creating one myself that combined dance, yoga and world music. All I needed was a studio to hold a class! Thinking back to my salsa days, whenever we needed rehearsal space, we had to call studios one by one. There had to be better way now. With that, the idea of StudioGo was born. And with the help of my tech savvy husband, we launched a new community, specifically created for dancers and yogis, to connect people with the spaces they need to hold class, rehearsals and performances.

StudioGoWith StudioGo, I envision independent yoga, dance and Zumba teachers finding space to hold class. Soon-to-be-married couples practicing their wedding dance. Authorized Ashtanga teachers working with private clients to help deepen their practice. Dance pros looking for space to hold specialty workshops in multiple cities. Salseros rehearsing for congress performances. Swing dancers gearing up for competition. The reasons to rent space are endless and we want to help make it happen.

Finding and booking space is just the beginning. We’re dedicated to helping the site and community grow and to offer more ways to help dancers and yogis do what they love. We welcome questions and feedback – send them directly to me at hello@studiogo.co. And thank you for joining! Find your studio and go!

  1. Can’t wait to use this for my doula practice. I plan on teaching classes one day and this will be so helpful.

    1. I love that idea. We’ll help you find a studio that offers pre-natal yoga or a fun belly dancing class for expecting mamas.:)
